Rec, Soap Box Derby Updates

Summer Programs  have openings
    The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department still has openings in the following  Summer Programs; T-ball , First Pitch Baseball; Tennis Lessons, Swim Lessons, Girls Softball, Basketball Camp, and  Dutch Soccer Camp.  Registrations have been extended until June 10.  For more information on any of the programs, call the department at 532-1310.  
Youth Adventure Program
    The Maine Winter Sports Center in cooperation with the Houlton Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a Youth Adventure Program this summer.  
    This will be a fast-paced, high energy program for kids looking for fun and adventure.
    The program will be held each Thursday starting on July 9 from 2-3:30p.m. and runs for five weeks.  Youth between the ages of 9 – 14 years are invited to participate.
    There is no fee for participation in this program. Youth are asked to meet at the Community Park Playground Building on July 9.  Be sure to wear comfortable athletic clothing, sneakers and bring a water bottle.  
    Youth Adventure Program is coached by Melissa York of Maine Winter Sports Center and Houlton Recreation Department staff.

Soap Box Derby Tech Day and Practice Race
    The Northern Maine Soap Box Derby will be sponsoring a Tech Day for racers that are registered for the June 20 race.  The Tech day will be held on Saturday, May 30 between 9 a.m. and 2  p.m. at Derby Hill in Community Park in Houlton. Racers are asked to bring their cars and the tech crew will be there to go over their car with them.  The hill will be open for some practice runs if the car is deemed ready to go.
    The Soap Box Derby Committee would also like to invite any youngster interested in participating in the Soap Box experience to this day to check out Soap Box Derby racing.
