CARIBOU — Caribou police have been investigating the Franklin Street stabbing of a young woman that took place last Wednesday. The victim, whose name is being withheld because of her age, suffered a superficial wound to her abdomen and was taken to Cary Medical Center. After treatment, she was released, according to Caribou Police Chief Mike Gahagan. The victim informed police that an unknown individual had stabbed her and that her attacker left after the stabbing.
According to Gahagan, the suspect was described as having brown eyes and wearing dark clothing and a mask at the time of the incident.
“We believe it was an isolated case and the [general public] shouldn’t be alarmed.” he said.
Gahagan also stated that increased police numbers, made possible by grants, contributed to two Caribou officers being only a street away when the attack was reported.
The Presque Isle Police provided the Caribou Police with assistance in the search for the suspect by providing an officer with a tracking dog. The State Police also assisted local units in the manhunt, according to Gahagan.
He also said that physical evidence gathered at the crime scene is being processed as well as stating that police are interviewing a possible witness and canvassing the neighborhood in the hope of generating leads in the case.
Anyone with information regarding the crime is encouraged by Gahagan to contact the Caribou Police Department at 493-3301.
