Students end school year visiting Bar Harbor, Six Flags

Class trips

The 8th-grade class drove to Bar Harbor on the bus for a field trip on June 5. They had a great time going to Sandy Beach, Thunder Hole and visited a lighthouse. While there, they also went on a boat trip to see how they trap lobsters and also saw some seals.      Shortly after graduation on June 5, the graduating class and some of their parents went on a trip to Massachusetts, where they went to Six Flags park. This was their Project Graduation trip. They chartered a bus and had tons of fun. They left Easton around 10:30 p.m. with lots of goodies that Mrs. West had baked for them.
They rode on lots of rides, including most of the roller coasters. The day was beautiful and in the high 70s. I was hoping they’d bring a little warm weather back with them. I hear the ride back was quite quiet. Everyone was played out and slept most of the way home. Thanks to everyone who gave to Project Graduation and enabled them to go on this unforgettable trip.

Easton graduates

The Class of 2009 graduated from Easton High School on June 5 and the ceremony went well.
Six members of the graduating class were National Honor Society members, including: Brad Trask, Megan Bradley, Sam Bacon, Kilynne Beaulieu, CJ Beaton and Katrina Martin.
Kilynne Beaulieu, first honor essay, challenged her class to never give up on their dreams. One day it will pay off.
Sam Bacon, second honor essay, told his classmates to enjoy their journey on their way to their destination — know where you’re going and be proud of your roots.
Brad Trask, salutatorian, had tips for the Class of 2009 to be successful: Compromise; your goals and dreams will come true if you have full confidence in yourself; expect the unexpected; turn an accident into opportunity — he was referring to his classmate Sean Daniels, who lost an arm in an accident during harvest, but never gave up, pursuing his sports career even though he had only one arm; and enjoy the people around you.
Katrina Martin, valedictorian, compared life’s lessons with making cookies: Share; always have your tools; if you make a mess, clean it up; take risks; be proud of your accomplishments; perfect your methods; and don’t be afraid to try new things. After her speech, Katrina gave out cookies that she had made to all her classmates.
Class marshals were Katrina Martin and Megan Bradley. The class motto: Focus on the journey, not the destination. Several scholarships were presented. The scholarships totaled $135,650. That was tremendous and a huge help to all of them. Thanks to all who gave out scholarships.

Graduation party

There was a graduation party held in honor of Katrina Martin. The party was given by her parents, Laurie and Vaughn Martin.
Out-of-town guests were: her grandparents Judy and Tine Alton, from Hartland; as well as Aunt Shari and Uncle Keith Lemire and Uncle Larry and Aunt Ethel Nadeau, from New Hampshire. Coming from East Millinocket were Auntie Ellen, Biff and cousins Pamela and Allison Dhuy. Pastor Dee and husband Ed came from Fort Fairfield. Presque Isle guests were Lacey and Joe Saucier. Katrina’s sister, Valerie Carmer, came from North Carolina. Easton guests were: her grandmother Phyllis Nadeau; Brad and Holly Nadeau; Tom, Ann and Michelle Osgood; C.J. Beaton; Sam Bacon; and Paula Bacon. Cousin Emily Cyr only attended graduation.

Visits

Mark and Carole Smith, of Portland, were home last weekend staying with his mom, Ezalee. They came home for Megan Bradley’s graduation. Megan is Mark’s niece. While home, they visited with Debbie and Vance Smith, Connie and Todd Bradley and other relatives.
Cookie Kenney just returned home from a visit to Florida. She went to spend some time with her daughters, Suzanne and Roxanne. As a matter of fact, she just returned in time to attend her grand-daughter, Kacie Getchell’s, graduation. Her daughters came home with her for the graduation as well. Kacie graduated from Easton High School.
Laura Frazier Lollis has been a guest of Vera Cullins for a week. Laura lives in Largo, Fla. She came home to attend her 50th class reunion.

Reunion

The Easton High School Class of 1959 had six of its members get together at Bonanza in Presque Isle for lunch and conversation. They exchanged photos and addresses. The six members were: Jean Shannon Pelfrey and Delia Driscoll Condon, from Easton; Laura Frazier Lollis from Fla.; Nancy Wolverton Tracy, from Presque Isle; Marjorie Dinsmore Foren, from Virginia; and Sally Brown Longmore. They had a good time reminiscing.

Mystery meal

The Easton senior citizens enjoyed a mystery progressive meal on June 8. They had no idea where they were going until they got to each destination. Their first stop was at Heidi Thompson’s house for appetizers. Her mom, Jackie, was also there. Lois Ladner was the next hostess and she served them all quiche and salad. They’re final stop was at Annie Gillespie’s for strawberry shortcake. YUM, that sure sounds good!
