Quint family appreciates support

To the editor:
We write to express our gratitude to everyone who sent e-mails, wrote letters and cards and telephoned in support of our father, Wayne Quint. We received hundreds of e-mails, many, many letters and cards and numerous telephone calls. We are extremely appreciative and indebted to the outpouring of supportive kind words and heartwarming remarks that made the remaining few weeks at Houlton High School bearable for our father.
We accomplished one of the goals in our original letter to the editor – to create a rally of public and vocal support for our father. However, despite tremendous public support, it was not persuasive enough for the superintendent to compromise and reconsider submitting our father’s name to the school board for the upcoming 2009-2010 academic year.
We are realists and know sometimes it is impossible to influence people and change their minds – even when you are on the right side. We are ready to move on, notwithstanding our disappointment, because it is important to our father that the athletic program, its students and athletes do not suffer as result of these irreconcilable differences.
Even though the last couple of months were uncomfortable and difficult at times, the recent overwhelming support and the decades of established service and dedication to HHS, its athletics and students, provides comfort and solace to a great man who dedicated his life to teaching and coaching kids. Our father’s spirit will live on in the memories of his students and forever be a part of Houlton High School.
We love you Dad!
