To the editor:
On May 2, 2008, my son, Charles M. Springer Jr., became a missing person. He suffers from dementia/Alzheimer’s disease and wandered from his home in Belmont (near Belfast) at the age of 69. Officials were unable to find him and to date we have learned nothing of his whereabouts, still not knowing for certain if he is alive or deceased.
Because Charles (Chuck) had been a long-haul truck driver who traveled all over the U.S.. for most of his life we mostly focused our search for him in states south of Maine and toward the West Coast where he had friends, relatives, and other contacts. As of late however, I have wondered if possibly he may actually have headed north of his Belmont home in an attempt to avoid being located.
When Charles left his home just over a year ago, there was TV and newspaper coverage throughout that area about his disappearance. I am concerned that coverage may not have reached the northern most areas of Maine.
After a full year without a single lead as to his whereabouts, we are nearly at a loss as to where to turn for help in trying to locate Charles. It would be so appreciated if you are able to help us in this matter.
