Walking hours
Walking hours at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center through Sept. 30 are 6 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Funtown/Splashtown and Water Country tickets
Discount tickets for the 2009 summer season are on sale at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. The fee for Funtown/Splashtown combo ticket is $26 each and for Water Country tickets are $28 each.
Pokemon game club
The Pokemon game club meets at the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department on Fridays throughout the summer months. The new hours are 1-3 p.m. through Aug. 7.
Outdoor swimming pool
The outdoor swimming pool is open for the season. The swmming pool free swim hours are as follows: Monday through Friday, 2-4 p.m. Monday and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 1-4 p.m.
Children six years of age and under must be accompanied on the pool deck at all times by a parent or designated guardian. Also note that children that are not potty trained must wear rubberized, elastic-legged coverings in the water.
CRX programs
Take it outside. What better way is there to spend your summer than being in the great outdoors? Parents, we need to encourage our children to try new things and this summer is a great time to accomplish this. There are still openings in the following CRX extreme programs, offered by the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department. Pre-registration is required for all programs.
Wild Outdoor Women runs from July 20-23. Girls, have you ever wanted to do something but were afraid of what the boys would think? Well, here is your chance to prove you can do it. This program will combine a variety of activities, ranging from biking, hiking, kayaking, backpacking and perhaps even wetting the line and catching a fish or two.
Participants must provide their own all-terrain bike and other related equipment. The progam is open to youths entering grades 7-10 who have passed American Red Cross beginners level swimming, or its equivalent. The fee is $20 for residents and $125 for non-residents.
The mountain biking program runs from July 27-30 and is open to youths entering grades 7-10. Join us as we travel throughout Aroostook County in search of exciting places to bike. Students will learn the principles of on- and off-road bike safety and off-road biking techniques. Rides will be from three to 17 miles in length. Interested cyclists must have an all-terrain bike, a helmet, a spare tire and a bike pump. The fee is $20 for residents and $125 for non-residents.
A two-night camping trip to Baxter State Park is being offered from Aug. 4-6 for youth entering grades 9 or 10. The park will be explored on bike, foot and through water. Participants will be required to provide a sleeping bag, sturdy boots, and off-road bike, a headlamp, rain gear and swimming suits. The fee is $30 for residents and $45 for non-residents.
The Deboullie Reserve land trip Aug. 11-13 is an opportunity to spend a couple nights in the North Maine Woods and find out why people travel from all over to visit this great destination. Participants will have a chance to bike, paddle, hike and try their luck at fishing. The program is for youths entering grades 7 or 8. The fee is $30 for residents and $45 for non-residents.
