Cooper Madore was the star for Kiwanis in their win over the Elks Friday. Ben Buckley pitched well early, but took the loss. Kiwanis scored all its runs on errors.
On July 20, Katahdin Trust was victorious over K of C with a 9-2 win. Denny Young picked up the win with 10 strikeouts. A double by Pat Cash, two singles by Young and a single by Alex Brewer led Katahdin Trust at the plate. K of C was paced by Ryan Player’s home run and Josiah Morse’s single.
In the second game of the morning, Savings Bank of Maine stole the 7-5 win over Key Bank. Nick Bartlett was the winner on the mound. Savings Bank was led by Bartlett, who had a home run and triple, and Trevor Miranda with a triple. Alex Tilley and Griffin Guerrette each had a double for Key Bank.
The first night game for minor league featured Katahdin Trust and Key Bank battling in a close game Thursday. Key Bank had a walk-off single by Alex Tilley for a 5-4 win. Isaac Devine was the winning pitcher. Key Bank was led offensively by Devine, who doubled, Grant Stewart with three singles and Jared Kilcollins with a single. Denny Young had a pair of singles for Katahdin Trust.
On Friday, Savings Bank of Maine earned a 12-8 win over Key Bank. Adam Patterson helped defensively as Nick Bartlett led Savings Bank offensively by going 4 for 5, including a grand slam. Griffin Guerrette led Key with a single and double, while teammates Isaac Devine, Grant Stewart and Jared Kilcollins each had singles.
In Friday’s second game, K of C came out with a 7-3 win over Katahdin Trust. Ryan Player was the winning pitcher and combined with Khasen Lowe for 15 strikeouts. Ryan Player tripled and singled, Khasen Lowe doubled, Josiah Morse had two singles and Logan Michaud had a single for K of C. Katahdin Trust had two singles from Alex Brewer.
For the final week of the regular season, the Wildcats took on Ashland/Washburn. Ryley Norton earned the win on the mound with help defensively from Isaac LaJoie, Brock Cassidy, Wilder York, Saul Nunez, Josh Gordon and Griffen Lovely. At the plate, Lajoie tripled and Cassidy doubled. Norton and Michael Guerrette both chipped in with hits in the ’Cats 6-2 win.
The last game of the week featured Rod Brewer Design facing off against Ashland/Washburn. Evan Waddell earned the win, as he and Jacob Player combined for the shutout victory. Offensively, Brennan Shaw had three hits and Player, Waddell and Tyler Seeley all had two hits in RBD’s 10-0 win.
The ’Cats ended up in first place in league play, with RBD in second.
In the first game against Madawaska, Hailey Cameron led the Presque Isle girls with a double and a single. Krystal Kingsbury singled twice. Taylor Williams, Kalie Ward and Jordi Legassie all singled once. The girls trailed the whole game, but put on their rally caps and scored six runs in the final inning. Ward and Legassie combined for four strikeouts in the game.
In the second game of the day, the the PI girls competed with Fort Fairfield. The balanced attack came from Williams, Jessica Cameron, Hailey Cameron and Legassie, who each had a single. The PI defense was too much for Fort as they moved on for the win. Legassie and Krystal Kingsbury combined for six strikeouts on the game.

The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has begun registration for its youth soccer program at the William V. Haskell Community Center.
The program is offered to boys and girls entering grades 1-6 this fall. The registration fee is $18.
Schedules and rosters will be handed out at the community center Tuesday, Aug. 11, with play beginning Aug. 24 for grades 1-2 and the week of Aug. 18 for grades 3-6.
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will host a parent/toddler signing playgroup Saturdays from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The group will meet the first Saturday of each month.
This group is designed to teach children basic signs as a means of communication at an earlier age. The cost is $2 per child per session. The group is designed for children up to age 6, but all ages may come and join in the fun.
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is now hosting birthday parties for ages 4 and up at the recreation center in addition to hosting parties at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool.
The recreation center is available Friday and Saturday nights from 6-8 p.m. beginning Aug. 14, with one hour of organized gym games included in the rental. The pool is available year round.
Activities vary with age groups, but include wiffleball, soccer, basketball, and kickball. For more information on rentals for the recreation center, please call 764-2545.
