Carletta (Pettengill) Nevers and her husband, Gary, have returned to Hanover, NH. after staying at Vacationland Estates for a week and attending the activities of the Summerfest, which included the Island Falls Alumni banquet and the VFW chicken barbeque. They also enjoyed visiting with all their friends and relations in the area. Their daughter, Jan Nevers, accompanied them and enjoyed the many activities, both in Island Falls and in Patten. She has since returned home to California.
My niece, Maurine (Harrison) Hannaford has been a recent guest and had a really great time the two days she was here. We visited the town of Houlton via Rte. 2 (for the scenery) and also stopped in to browse in the Amish store in Smyrna. She has since returned home to Kennebunk and is looking forward to another visit.
Paula Chamberlain and her mother, Pauline Robbins have arrived from Virginia to spend a couple of weeks with Paula’s husband Alan at the Chamberlain cottage on lower Mattawamkeag Lake. Their first week here was spent at Vacationland Estates and they had a week to tour the area. They all plan to return home to Virginia at the end of the month.
I finally spotted a doe and her fawn about a week ago down on my back lawn near the edge of the woods. I knew they were somewhere around as they had been in the garden eating my green pepper plants, which I have since kept covered at night. I also noticed some nibbles on one tomato plant. There were also footprints in part of the garden area not planted as they wandered around looking for good stuff to eat, besides my veggies.
The black cat is still with me, faithfully arriving to get his breakfast and afternoon snack every day. I am not feeding the birds, but have cleaned the feeders for the start of the fall feeding.
