Eastern Maine meet planned for Saturday

State XC event now on Nov. 7

    Rain and cold temperatures throughout the state Saturday forced the postponement of the Eastern Maine Cross Country Championships in Belfast.

    The meet is being made up this Saturday, Oct. 31. Caribou’s girls team will compete in the Class B competition at 12:10 p.m., with the Caribou boys to follow at 12:45 p.m. The Class C competition will follow, with Limestone-MSSM girls racing at 1:20 p.m. and theEagle boys at 1:55 p.m.
    Medals will be presented to the top 10 finishers in each class. Half of the teams that start the race will qualify for the state championships. The top 20 finishers in the Class B race and the top 30 in the Class C race will qualify as individuals for the state competition.
    According to the Weather Channel’s web site, this Saturday’s forecast in Belfast is for cloudy skies with a 20 percent chance of precipitation. Temperatures could reach 63 degrees.
    The state meet will now be held at Cumberland on Nov. 7, with the New England meet scheduled for Nov. 14.
    The Caribou boys enter the EM meet as the defending champion and are one of the favorites to win this year’s title.
    The team is led by the foursome of Finn Bondeson, D. J. Flynn, Timothy Freme and Christian Sleeper.
    The Caribou girls have a couple top contenders in Dayna Michaud and Mary Jo Sheehan.
    Patrick Brown and Lucy Wilcox are the Eagles’ No. 1 runners.
