Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Nov. 3 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
Rotarians Dana Crory and Rhonda Orser read one of the stories for the upcoming book “I Remember When in Mars Hill.” This book will have several stories written by Mars Hill residents who have lived in town for many years. The book should be ready for sale in December.
The 2010 Birthday Calendars have arrived. For anyone wishing to purchase one, they are available at various locations in town. Cost is $6 per calendar. For any corrections, changes or additions to the calendar, contact Tomi Henderson at 429-9126 or at tomihen@yahoo.com.
The special speakers were members of the Presque Isle Rotary Club (Dan Bagley and Jason Parent) and the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club (Bob Besaw and Ted Roberts).
Jason spoke to the group about the importance of the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club. It is much more than a clubhouse, being used by many in the community for events and meetings. It is truly a community icon. The club itself was started in the 1970s, with the log clubhouse built in the 1980s. It is in use throughout the year.
Ted Roberts spoke to the club about the devastating phone call he received from John Graves in the early morning hours of Jan. 25, 2009. The clubhouse was on fire! The fire was well under way by the time the fire department arrived and the building was a total loss. And to make matters even worse, while they had insurance on the building, it only covered 70 percent of the value. The club was within days of the next scheduled meeting, when they intended to vote to increase the coverage on the structure and contents.
While they have some monies from the insurance, they are short of having the total needed to finish the new clubhouse. They contracted with Ward Cedar Log Homes to buy a kit to redo the clubhouse, with a larger kitchen, better bathroom facilities and an entry. Construction began in the early fall with PNM Construction handling the project. Despite some setbacks, the clubhouse is close to being weather tight, and should be ready for use this December.
The Presque Isle Rotary Club intends to devote some of their annual auction proceeds to the completion of the clubhouse. The Club has also sent out fund-raising letters to around 600 individuals and companies that use the clubhouse. There are around 200 people from out of state that come to the county each year to enjoy the wonderful trail system that we have. If everyone will help a little, it will be up and finished in no time.

Community Club
The Mars Hill and Blaine Community Club met Nov. 2 for a turkey dinner. Members discussed the upcoming year, cards to be sent out and a special donation. The Treasurer’s report was read and accepted. Several thank you cards were received.
The next meeting will be on Monday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Members are to bring a bag lunch; dessert will be provided. A Yankee Swap will take place. Members are to bring a pair of mittens to be donated to various groups in town.
