The Houlton Council of Catholic Women again sponsored a Christmas Giving Tree to help area families  give their children a memorable Christmas.
The giving tree Committee starts in September by contacting area schools for names of families that may need some extra help at Christmas. Families sign consent forms from the schools and then a letter is sent to each family by the committee. All family names are kept confidential.

TOY DONATIONS — St. Mary’s Giving Tree Committee members, from left, Alta Reardon, Mary Grant and Jane Stile hold toys donated for area children.

This year through the generosity of St. Mary’s parishioners, gifts were purchased for 273 children. Homemade cradles, complete with dolls, clothing and bedding were donated by Joyce Hughes and her  family. Toys for all ages were donated by CLA, ACAP, Houlton Regional Hospital, Motorcycle Riders Education Club, North Country Cruisers, an anonymous donor and a non-profit organization from out of state that had been blessed with more toys than they needed for their recipients.
Numerous new items of clothing were also available for families so that they could choose gifts for a family member. And disposable diapers for infants were also donated.
The Houlton Council of Catholic Women Giving Tree Committee thanks everyone for their overwhelming generosity.
