Grade 5
Caribou Middle School
Most kids think that because they’re young, they can’t help save the earth. They can. If they pick up garbage in the yard or neighborhood, they are helping the earth. Kids can do all sorts of things to help the earth. If people tell you you are too young, you are NOT! You should always believe that you can do anything you want to do, and that includes saving the planet. No matter how young you are you should help take care of our earth. Kids are often better at working at saving the earth because adults have to work, so their minds are busy. They don’t always think about recycling the soda can they just threw away.
Youth can help. They can tell adults to recycle cans and other materials when they are through with them. It’s so easy, and once you get used to it, you won’t even have to think about it. Saving the planet is easier than you thought. Remember that children are never too young to begin learning, especially when it comes to recycling and saving our earth. We have great recycling igloos in our community so remember to use them. Every little bit helps.
One example of recycling helpers is a group of fifth-graders who are collecting plastic lunch containers in the cafeteria. Members of the student group are Erin Kashian, Erin Randall, Madeline Gudde, Jill Courchene, Samantha Fortin and Conner Spencer. They have created two collection boxes for the students to use. The group is then planting flowers in the containers to be used around the Caribou Middle School later this spring.
