Bridgewater Historical News
The BHA would like to thank everyone who helped make our yard sales a huge success. The work crew was awesome. We plan to have another one in the fall so keep your eyes peeled. We are still accepting donations for future yard sales, so keep us in mind.
Our Live Music on Thursday nights from 6 – 9 p.m. is also going quite well. We hope to complete our sound system this year. If you haven’t been, come on down and have a grand time. Our music is a little bit Country and a little bit old time Rock And Roll and more. There is no cover charge, but donations are accepted. Once the PA system is complete we will put the money towards another project at the hall.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for July 24th and our “Dance For The Dogs” The BHA is holding a dance to raise money to purchase protective vests for the areas canine police officers. If you would like to make a donation or more info on the dance please contact the BHA.
We are planning an ice cream Sundae/ Root Beer Float night in the near future, so again, keep your eyes peeled for updates.
Thank you once again for the support. We look forward to seeing you at our events.

Ricker Rumblings
by Lois Downing
Hello everyone! Time to write again. Ronald Brownlow has spent a few days in Houlton Regional Hospital. Priscilla, his wife, has been to see him everyday. He’s home now and feeling better. Priscilla Brownlow has recently had company from Texas.
Have you seen the gardens lately? They are both beautiful, the flower garden and the vegetable garden. Some of the tenants have had vegetables from their garden. It’s almost the Fourth of July. Hope you have plans. My wish is that you have a safe and joyous one. If you travel, get back home safely.
There’s a new taxi out there for your use. Their number is 694-0647 if you need it.
Elinor Schenk is spending a few days at their Timothy Lake cottage with her daughter and son-in-law. Elinor recently had eye surgery and is getting along fine.
We have a new tenant on the first floor. The name is not available at this time. Carolyn Carmichael is among those on the “sick” list. Hope you feel better, Carolyn. The only way to see an angel is to look with the eyes of the heart. The only way to hear an angel is to listen with the ears of the soul. (a daily reflection)
Have a wonderful and safe week.
Mr. and Mrs Clayton Varney and son and daughter-in-law, Nickie and Carol, have returned home to Winterport after spending a week at the Varney camp on upper Mattawamkeag Lake, enjoying the swimming and visiting friends and relatives in the area.
Don and Marion (Grant) Burton have arrived from Rancho Cordova in California to spend several months at their cottage on Mattawamkeag Lake. They are former residents from the area and really look forward to their stay here in the summer, black flies and mosquitoes and all. Tom Hawkes, with son Chris, arrived from Bangor last Friday to do a lot of cosmetic work around my house, including trimming the grass from around one of my flower gardens, and trimming trees. Greatly appreciated by this lady.  Am still enjoying the birds arriving at my feeder every day—lots of red poles now, plus gold finch, nuthatches, and occasional chickadees and woodpeckers show up too.
Happened to look out my kitchen window one mid-morning and saw a fat skunk walking rapidly across my lawn in the direction of my neighbor’s house. Hope he caused no problem over there. Still have the “yowler cat” arriving now and then for a snack. Hope he never runs into the skunk.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly ME 0233, HOULTON

Take Off Pounds Sensibly Chapter ME 0233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Friday, June 24 meeting. Joyce Estey, leader, was present and led the meeting. Elinor Harvey was the official greeter.
Eighteen members were present; five were KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly). Bette Hemore was welcomed after a long absence. We all recited the Circle of Hope before we gave our pledges.
Loser of the week was Janice Shaw with runner-up Barbara Grant. The skinny dish went to Melva Folsom. Barbara Grant led us in several minutes of exercises.
Dale Holden passed out papers with recipes; some were submitted by TOPS members. She also took total hours of exercises. Ladies receiving prizes for the most minutes of exercises were Charlotte Marley, Dale Holden and Lois Downing.
Some of the subjects discussed were parking, recipes and exercises. We have a new printer, purchased by TOPS, and to be used by TOPS members for its use. For the balance of the meeting, the bylaws were reviewed  up to and including number 10. We made additions, deletions, omissions and corrections as needed. The remainder of the bylaws will be finished at the next meeting.
