Caribou – Laura Irene Allen, 88, joined her husband Wallace in Heaven, September 8, 2010 at Caribou. She was born in Gorham ,November 7, 1921, the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Cormier) St. Hilaire. Mrs. Allen began her career as a cook for the Caribou School Dept at Sincock School and retired in 1988 as the head cook at Caribou Junior High. Many students and faculty will remember her famous peanut butter squares. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a Brownie Scout and Girls Scout Leader and was a member of the Caribou Widows Support group. She was an active member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the Maine Veterans Home where she donated many handmade afghans to the residents. She was also a member of the Cootiette Club 404.
She is survived by one son, Michael Allen of Caribou; three daughters, Ilene Dian Presutte of Caribou, Juanita Lemire of Lebanon, N.H. and Roxann Hogan of Shalimar, Fla.; one brother, Philias St. Hilaire and his wife, Lillian of N. Bend, Oregon; six grandchildren, Laura Myers, David Presutte, Angela DeCamp, Renee Picca, Jay Lemire and Toni Lynn Hogan; five great-grandchildren, Madison and Luke Myers, Devin DeCamp, Zachary Duke Hogan and Jessi Hogan; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Allen was predeceased by her husband, Wallace in 2003 and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Rosaire Tremblay and Lillian and Wilfred Couture.
