Elks to hold annual soccer shoot

    On Sunday, Sept. 19 the Houlton Elks Lodge will hold its annual Soccer Shoot at Houlton High School soccer field at 1 p.m., with registration starting at 12:30 p.m. A parent or legal guardian must be present in order to sign a consent form at the event.
    Where a participant will compete is determined by the age of the contestant as of August 1, 2010.  There are four age groups in each boys and girls division. Please bring verification of age such as a birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport,
    The “Five Goal” contest consists of a series of five goals, decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17 inches. Youth under 8 kick 15 feet from the face of the goal, while youth under 10 kick 18 feet from the goal.
    The “Grid Goal” contest has two divisions for youth ages 10-11 and 12-13. The contest consists of a full-size goal sectioned off so points can be scored when the ball is kicked into certain sections.
    The Five Goal and Grid Goal contests are open to both boys and girls and they shoot separately.
    Winners in both boys and girls divisions for each age group will compete in the Northern District event to be held in Millinocket on Oct. 10. Winners at the district level will compete at the state level at the Augusta Elks Lodge on Oct. 17. Winners at the state level will compete at the Area 1 Regional Soccer Shoot in Portsmouth, N.H. from Nov. 5-7.
