FORT FAIRFIELD — Improving upon last season’s marvelous campaign, which saw the Fort Fairfield golf team qualify for the state championship, has been the top priority for Tiger golf coach Larry Gardner this season.

In his fourth season as the Tigers coach, Gardner has a stable of young golfers who have risen to the occasion. With no seniors on the roster, the future also looks bright for the Tigers. Fort Fairfield sports a 10-2 record, with both of its losses coming to Ashland.
“Last year we won the Aroostook County Championship in our class, which qualified us for the state championship,” Gardner said. “We had two state qualifiers as well who did not actually compete in the state meet because of various conflicts.”
The Tigers lost one senior to graduation, and three other golfers elected not to return this season. The Tiger roster, in order of ranking on the team, includes juniors Billy Weissman, Landon Towle and Tyler Churchill; freshman Noah Bernard; and sophomores Brandon Clark and Will Adams.
Other first-year players include sophomores Devin Ireland and Spencer Campbell and freshmen Jordann Coiley and Carter Shaw.
“We should be competitive with all the teams,” Gardner said. “Ashland is probably the team to beat this year especially with them hosting the County Meet there on Friday.”
