Destination Imagination teams raising funds for trip

There will be several fundraisers held to raise the funds needed for the two teams to go to the Global competitions in Tennessee.

Members are planning a car wash on April 16, from 8 a.m. to noon in Washburn. A Stew Night at the Washburn Trail Runners Clubhouse from 5 to 6:30 p.m. is also planned on April 15.
Dinner and BINGO will be offered on April 26 and May 3 at the Washburn Trail Runners Clubhouse. Dinner is served from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with BINGO starting at 6:30 p.m.

The group will be delivering pizzas from the Washburn Food Mart to homes in Washburn, Wade, Perham and Crouseville on Friday, April 29, 4-9 p.m. To order a pizza, call the Food Mart at 455-8057 and be sure to ask for delivery by the DI team!

Ms. Washburn
A Ms. Washburn Throwback 2011 Pageant will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the high school.
Contestants already on board include Mike Hartford, Jensen Reed, Ben Goodwin, Ben Swank, Craig Sjoberg and Jason Reed, with several others checking their schedules.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. There will also be a People’s Choice Award. This promises to be a very fun evening, so come on out and help support the Destination Imagination Team in this fundraiser.
Washburn ATV Club
The Washburn ATV Club has elected new officers for the 2011 year. Officers include: President — Roger Hewitt, Vice
President — Larry Bull, Secretary/Treasurer — Joyce Boynton, Trail Master — Donnie Hewitt and Assistant Trail Master — Nate Doody.
Members discussed upcoming summer projects, fundraisers and ideas on helping the club membership grow. The largest project planned is working on the trail from Washburn to the Crouseville Bridge, grading, bush cutting and water drainage.
Members decided to drop the single and family membership dues from $30 to $20 for yearly membership. The yearly business memberships are $50 and include advertisement on the club’s website and Facebook page.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse behind the Washburn Food Mart.

TOPS
If you are interested in controlling your weight, give TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) a try. This support group is meant to help you with your weight-loss efforts — not be a diet group. Meetings are held weekly for the support of all on their road to success.
Weigh-in starts each Monday at 4:45 p.m. and goes until 5:25 p.m. Meetings start at 5:30 p.m. at the Washburn Snowmobile Club.

The Washburn District High School Class of 2012 held their Junior Exhibition on Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at the high school. There were seven speakers for this year’s Junior Exhibition.

MARLAINA SPOONER
spoke about “The Mask I Wear” during the Junior Exhibition held at Washburn High School on April 8.
Marcella Cheviot spoke on “Surviving in the Wonderful World of High School” with its many ups and downs.

ZACHARY MAYNARD
was “Mr. DJ” during the Junior Exhibition held at Washburn High School on April 8.
Nikkie Richardson and Breanna Hyde joined forces and spoke about “Our Dad’s Rules for Dating.” I’m not sure what their dating life is like, if their boyfriends have to go by the rules they described. Nikkie and Breanna won the People’s Choice Award.
Lara Scott recited the poem “The Voiceless” by Molly Biehl, after giving an introduction on animal rights. Lara was declared the winner of the Junior Exhibition.
Jacob Reed spoke about a “Road Trip, with a Few Recognizable Characters.” The “trip” from Maine to California was taken with a friend on a bicycle built for two. I think that many folks listening recognized his characters, as there were many laughing at his impressions. Jacob was declared the runner-up.

150th fundraiser
The Washburn August Festival and the 150th Anniversary Committee will be holding a fund-raising supper at the Washburn Trail Runners clubhouse on Saturday, April 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu will include the typical Saturday night beans and hotdogs meal with salads, rolls and dessert. Cost is $5 per person. Proceeds will go toward this years celebration on Aug. 19-21.
