Washburn’s Destination Imagination team was busy on Saturday, May 21, on their final fund-raising day. They enjoyed lots of good food and friends dropping by at the Trailrunners clubhouse for their breakfast. Part of the team worked hard on a town-wide bottle drive, raising money with the help of the Carney family at the Washburn Redemption Center, and the rest got their hands wet during a car wash at White’s Service. The group planned to leave for the Global competition in Tennessee early Monday, May 23, and we’ll hear of the results later. Those participating in the car wash were, pictured from left: D.I. Advisor Tracy Reed, and team members Izia Labou, Rachel Rossignol, Carsyn Koch, Kennedy Churchill, Cameron Huston, Zach Davis, Marcella Cheviott and Jacob Reed.
It is truly astounding how supportive the small community and surrounding towns have been. The team is truly thankful and the students will do their best in their competition.
Wade town meetings
The selectmen for Wade met on May 2. Present were Dwayne Dow, Donna Turner and Freeman R. Corey. Items discussed included the town garage considerations, town equipment needs and repairs, three tax-acquired properties that are ready to go out for bid, the woodlots, the town warrant that was signed and a grant obtained by GIS Lab at UMPI that will digitize the town maps at no cost to the town.
The selectmen also met on May 16, with Dwayne Dow, Donna Turner and Freeman R. Corey present. Items discussed included the financial warrant and a warrant signed for a special town meeting to discuss the town garage. This meeting was to take place on Monday, May 23, at 7 p.m. at the Dunntown Church. Also discussed were a tax-acquired property and the Hazard Mitigation Plan, which may allow the town to receive FEMA money to install guardrails on the South Wade Road and possibly include culverts to increase the drainage.
Mill Pond renewal
On May 26 at 6:30 p.m., there will be a Washburn Town Meeting to determine if the residents will approve grants and other possible funding sources for the further development of the Mill Pond area. It is important for folks to attend the upcoming town meeting to ask questions, become informed and hopefully give your support to a very worthwhile project.
