PRESQUE ISLE — Three local men were arrested just over a year after they reportedly robbed the Daigle Oil Company in Presque Isle.

“On May 29, 2010, a lone female clerk at the Daigle Oil Company service station on Main Street was robbed at gunpoint. Two suspects entered the building, while a possible third suspect waited in a car,” said Det. Sgt. Wayne Selfridge, of the Criminal Investigation Division for the Presque Isle Police Department.

Selfridge said approximately $550 was stolen but the employee was not harmed in the incident.

Nearly a year to the day of the reported robbery, local police — using information gathered over the past year — were able to make an arrest.

“This incident was reopened as a cold case by the PIPD and information was developed that led to three warrants being issued on June 2. Those warrants were acted upon the same day, resulting in the arrest of Daniel Masters, 23, of Westfield; Dennis Tardie, 23, of Mapleton; and Paul Hafford, 25, of Sheridan,” Selfridge said.

All three were charged with felony robbery, a Class A crime; burglary, a Class A offense; and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, a Class B crime. In addition, Hafford was charged with civil possession of marijuana.

“None of them could meet the $15,000 cash or $75,000 surety bail and are currently being held at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton,” said Selfridge.

All three are scheduled to appear in Superior Court on Aug. 18.

Assisting Selfridge with the investigation were PIPD Officers Peter Johnson and Kevin Reed. Assisting with the arrests were Trooper Fred Thomas, of the Maine State Police; Deputy Vance Palmer, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department; and Officer Corey Bouchard, of the Ashland Police Department.
