Unsolved homicide

To the Editor:

Just a reminder with all the homicides in the news lately, we have one right here in Woodland still unsolved. The afternoon of Feb. 6, 2008, Darrel Smith was murdered at his workshop on the Thomas Road in Woodland. It has been three and one-half years and we are still looking for information that will bring this case to a close.

I know that the majority of these homicides are domestic violence related. Darrel and I loved each other and as he would say, “Barb is my buddy”. To the best of my knowledge he had no enemies. July 6 would have been our 26th anniversary.

I can hardly watch TV or the news any more as that is all that is on — either another murder or CSI-type shows.

Please report any findings you have to the Maine State Police, as this case is still very much active. Not a day goes by that someone — neighbor, friend, stranger or family member — does not ask me if there is any news or an arrest in his murder. I will remain positive that his murder will be solved and I may find closure.

Also remember there is still a very large reward available for the right information. No matter how small you think that information is, it could be the link we need.

So if you are the guilty party and reading this, let it be known we have not given up and you will be found.

Barbara Smith, Woodland
