Bosse met several staff members at the Caribou Health Center on Access Highway, who told him about the various patient services available at Pines. According to Pines officials, Bosse was shown a first-hand glimpse of the health center’s new electronic medical record system and was informed as to how the new system will enhance quality, communication, efficiency, and continuity of care for Pines patients.
During his visit to Pines, Bosse asked how a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) benefits patients residing in local communities.
Pines CEO Jim Davis explained, “Our FQHC designation has broadened our foundation of services and our ability to provide comprehensive health care to residents throughout northern and central Aroostook County, regardless of their ability to pay. Patients have access to an array of primary and specialty care providers, as well as patient assistance programs such as our Access program for discounted or free care, prescription assistance for free or discounted medications, and case management services for coordination of care among a patient’s providers and community-based support resources.”
Falling on the second week of August each year, National Health Center Week recognizes the role of Community Health Centers in providing access to affordable, high quality health care to underserved people in the United States.
