NMCC drops opener

The Northern Maine Community College Falcons men’s soccer team opened its regular season schedule Sunday at home with a 7-1 loss to SMCC on the turf field at Presque Isle Middle School.

SMCC, a perennial power in the Yankee Conference, began the scoring just 7 minutes into the contest and then went on to add three more goals before intermission.

The Falcons scored their lone goal with 1:05 to go in the opening half as Simon Tutlis converted a pass from Kyle Murray for the team’s lone goal of the day.

SMCC added three more goals in the second half.

“I thought we played hard today but just made too many defensive mistakes against a very strong team” said Falcon coach Bill Casavant. “We need to continue to work hard in practice and minimize our mistakes to improve our performance each game.”

The Falcons’ goalkeeper, Alex Myers, made 15 saves on 39 shots. NMCC will make the trip to Bangor to take on Eastern Maine Community at 4 p.m. this afternoon. The Falcons return home Saturday at 2 p.m. as they host Unity College at PIMS.
