HOULTON — The annual Holiday Light Parade, sponsored by the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce, will be held Saturday, starting at 6 p.m.
The parade begins in the Houlton Shopping Plaza on the North Road and continues down North Road to Market Square. A tree lighting ceremony will take place at the town Christmas Tree in Market Square, but unlike last year, the parade will not end there. After the tree is lit by Santa Claus, the parade will continue to Monument Park, where an area will be set up at the amphitheatre for local children to meet with Santa and have a photo taken. The remaining floats will continue to the Gentle Memorial Building parking lot.

Island Falls plans special town meeting Monday
ISLAND FALLS — Residents will be asked Monday at a special town meeting to come up with extra money for a water main improvement project that has been two years in the making. The meeting was originally slated for Monday, Nov. 21.
The special town meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the municipal building.
According to Island Falls Town Manager Joseph Clark, approval is being sought for the town to take out a loan of $121,000, which is in addition to the original sum of $1,162,450 authorized at the town meeting held Aug. 18, 2010.
The project calls for improvements to the town’s water supply, including the replacement of water mains in the town. According to Clark, 80 percent of the $121,000 needed will be for paving of town roads once the water main project is complete.
The need for extra funds is mainly due to the increased cost of paving materials, he said.
