A Presque Isle man who allegedly used social media to proposition minors pleaded guilty Thursday.
Joseph Maile, 27, pleaded guilty under terms of a plea deal to one count of attempted sex trafficking of a minor, one count of enticement of a minor, and one count of attempted enticement of a minor, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
The FBI arrested Maile last May for attempted sex trafficking, following an earlier investigation at his Presque Isle home.
He was convicted in 2022 for unlawful sexual contact, according to his profile on the Maine Sex Offender Registry, which says he resides in Madison.
Maile used Snapchat to solicit sexual images from minors and to offer money to have sex with minors, according to court records.
He faces prison time from 10 to 25 years, a fine of up to $250,000, and potentially a lifetime of supervised release, court records stated.
Maile waived indictment and is in the custody of U.S. marshals, according to court documents.
He will be sentenced after the U.S. Probation Office conducts a presentencing investigation, due by Sept. 10.
