Caribou man arrested
after Easter Sunday burglary, theft
CARIBOU — A Caribou man was arrested on Easter Sunday night for theft and burglary allegedly committed earlier in the day.
The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office was informed that a man, later identified as Robert St. Jean, 55, of Caribou, had walked into a residence unannounced and unwelcomed, asking for help to get his vehicle out of a ditch after sliding off the Sly Brook Road in Wallagrass. While in the residence, St. Jean took several small items without the owner’s knowledge and left after a neighbor pulled St. Jean’s 2002 blue Pontiac Sunfire out of the ditch.
Deputy Kris Malmborg said on Monday that it was also reported that St. Jean had additionally entered the residence of a Winterville family unannounced and unwelcome, again looking for assistance to pull his vehicle back onto the road.
The homeowner gave St. Jean a ride back to his car, eight miles away on the Shore Road in Winterville Plantation.
The owner of the Winterville residence told police that when he arrived at St. Jean’s vehicle, he felt that there was no way to safely pull the vehicle back onto the road. The resident told St. Jean such and the two parted ways, St. Jean left with the vehicle and the resident returning to his home.
On his arrival back home, however, the resident found several items missing from his domicile and notified the police.
The Sheriff’s office received the Winterville complaint around 5:30 p.m.; when Deputy Malmborg arrived on the scene, St. Jean was questioned and subsequently arrested on burglary and theft charges.
Deputy Malmborg noted that there were also several camps at the end of the Shore Road which were broken into, and officials with the Sheriff’s Office officials were attempting to contact all the camps’ owners.
As the case is still under investigation, anyone with additional information pertaining to these offenses are encouraged to contact Deputy Malmborg at the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office by calling at 1-800-924-2261.
St. Jean is currently out on a $500 bail, after going before a judge, while in custody at the Aroostook County Jail.
