‘Farmer’ Mark sets sights on Augusta

To the editor:

Although there are some very positive issues that both the Republican and Democratic parties have tried to represent, over the past 10 to 12 years I have been troubled by the way our country, state and city have been governed. And to me it really doesn’t matter which party has been in charge. Three years ago I changed my voter registration status to Independent, figuring that I would make my own decisions on subjects as presented. Thus, with the support of my better half, “farmer” Gloria, I have decided to run as an Independent candidate for House seat 4.

The disadvantage to being an Independent is that I will not have the financial nor experienced backing of either party in running a campaign. The advantage is that I will have to grow a grassroots type campaign that, if successful, will help guide me in Augusta on making decisions. I’d rather listen to the people who elected me than be obligated to either one of the two parties.

In order to qualify to receive campaign funds from the Maine Clean Election Fund, we had to collect a $5 donation and signature from at least 60 people, and we were successful in doing that. “farmer” Gloria and I want to thank everyone who supported me in this endeavor. This is the beginning of my Independent campaign. It’s my hope that you will follow this campaign in the future and that if you like the ideas put forth, you will support me in November.

Please pass on any of your thoughts and ideas; they will be important if we are to succeed.
