The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department is looking for volunteers to help keep Caribou’s landscape areas looking good. “We are looking for folks that like to putter in a garden to become a member of our Green Thumb Gang,” said Kathy Mazzuchelli, superintendent of parks and recreation.
According to Mazzuchelli there are several landscape gardens around town that need to be weeded and cared for during the course of the growing season, especially early spring and summer. “Our community is defined by how we present ourselves to our residents and visitors,” she stated, “when the community is noticeably well landscaped and looks good to visitors, it speaks volumes about the community itself and the folks who live there.”
The areas earmarked for the Green Thumb Gang include the Bennett Drive monument; Downtown Caribou sign at the Downtown Mall; the small garden at the entrance to the boardwalk at Collins Pond; the petunia beds downtown; two landscaped corners at the Fort Street and U.S. Route 1 intersection, and the circle garden outside the Wellness Center.
Anyone interested in maintaining one of these areas are asked to contact the Caribou Parks and Recreation office at 493-4224.
