PI splits opening contests
The Wildcat hockey team survived a wild game on Friday and then was unable to finish near the goal on Saturday as the squad split road contests against Wisdom and Lawrence.
PI defeated the Black Raiders 10-9 in its first game.
The ’Cats held leads of 2-0, 3-1 and 9-6, but squandered each of them and needed Colin McKay’s overtime goal to come out on top.
McKay finished with five goals. Alex Michaud netted two goals and six assists and Adam Flynn had two goals and five assists. Tyler Seeley added a goal and three assists.
Saturday’s game saw Lawrence take a two-goal lead, but Alex Michaud scored with three seconds left in the opening period and McKay notched an unassisted goal early in the second to tie it.
Lawrence went ahead with a goal 2:37 into the third period and then had an empty-netter with three seconds to go to claim a 4-2 win.
PI held a 41-18 advantage in shots on goal.
“We dominated play from start to finish, but just couldn’t beat their goalie,” said PI coach Carl Flynn. “We hit posts and skates and players — just not the back of the net.”
