Region 2 students make blankets for Hope and Justice Project

    Students from the Early Childhood Education Program at Region Two School of Applied Technology recently participated in a community service project.
    When new instructor, Alison Reece, proposed the idea to the students they showed a real interest. 
    “They wanted to make the project one that was meaningful to their program and their work with children,” Reece said. “The group decided to create several fleece blankets, as well as more than 100 coloring page care packages to be distributed to local programs.”

    Twelve of the blankets, as well as 50 coloring page packets, were donated to the Hope and Justice Project, located in Houlton. Leslie Gervais, Community Outreach Educator from the Hope and Justice Project, visited the class to receive the donated materials and give a brief presentation about the work that is done through the project. She explained that often the children utilizing their services do not get to bring their own belongings with them, so receiving a blanket of their very own, as well as some crayons or markers, has the potential to be very meaningful and will likely make the child’s stay a more enjoyable one.
    An additional fleece blanket that was created by the group will be donated to Houlton Regional Hospital to be included in the “New Year’s Basket”, and the remainder of the coloring page packets will be donated to the Stepping Stones Program to be utilized by the children and families involved with their services.
