Residents asked to complete postal survey

WASHBURN NEWS

by Beth Boddy

Recently residents of Washburn received a survey in the mail from the United States Postal Service. The results of this survey will be used in determining the best course of action for providing postal services to Washburn in the future. The survey includes four different options for future mail service. All Washburn residents are strongly encouraged to respond to this survey.

Surveys need to be returned in the postage-paid envelope enclosed with the survey by Dec. 25. The USPS will also hold a meeting at the Washburn Post Office at 9 Woodman St. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 6 p.m. The results of the survey will be shared at the meeting; local management will also answer questions and solicit input regarding the time of day the post office will be open.

Morin wins book

Cody Morin was the winner of Ray Carter’s book “Washburn: An Informal History.” The book was raffled off by the Salmon Brook Historical Society to raise money to maintain the Society’s museum. The Salmon Brook Historical Society would like to thank everyone who purchased a ticket to help support this cause.

Anita Tarr enjoyed the Holiday Tea at the Washburn Memorial Library.

On Dec. 3 the Washburn Memorial Library hosted a Holiday Tea for the members of the Washburn Senior Group; several Rotarians were also in attendance. The event was a celebration of a recently-acquired large-print and audio collection that was sponsored by a Washburn Rotary Club grant. This project has yielded over 30 new books and all are available for patrons to check out.

The intent of the project is to improve the existing collection of large-print and audio materials for our in-house needs as well as to serve our house-bound patrons with a more extensive assortment of new materials. Guests enjoyed a variety of snacks and beverages and many left the library with a book or two.

Scouts selling trees

Washburn Boy Scout Troop 177 is selling Christmas trees again this year and are proud to have Richards Christmas Tree Farm as their supplier.

There are still trees available and sales will continue until they are all sold. Trees are available at Ronald Rand’s home on the Presque Isle road in Washburn or by contacting any Scout or leader  or calling Larry Harrison at 455-4074. Pricing is $25 for a 5-6 foot tree, $28 for a 6-7 foot tree, and a 7-8 foot is just $31. Delivery is also available in the local area. Please help support the Boy Scout program in Washburn.

Free coats

The Washburn Civic Center still has used winter coats in good condition to anyone who may need one this winter, and are always accepting donated coats. A coat can be picked up at anytime when the Civic Center is open or you can go the Washburn Town Office during their normal business hours to obtain a winter coat free of charge. If you have a winter coat in good condition that you are no longer using, you can drop it off at the Washburn Civic Center or Town Office. These donations are greatly appreciated. Let’s help everyone stay warm this winter.
