Swim season begins
ORONO — The Presque Isle swim team opened its season by participating in the Penobscot Valley Conference relay meet, held Friday at the University of Maine’s Wallace Pool.
Both teams placed eighth in the competition. The Wildcat boys’ highest placement came in the 200-yard backstroke as Dustin Drabek, Alex Hemphill, Nate Dewitt and Issac Estey came in third with at time of 2:07.64.
Other boys’ results: 200-yard medley relay – Estey, Hemphill, Nate Dewitt and Joshua Jones were sixth in 2:01.28; 250-yard shuttle relay – Lewis Amero, Matt Burtt, Brenden Goulet, and Drabek were fifth in 2:42.93; 200-yard butterfly relay – Hemphill, Drabek, Dewitt and Estey were fifth in 1:58.21; 200-yard freestyle relay – Keegan Ennis, Jones, David Cyr and Dewitt were fifth in 1:49.24; 200-yard breaststroke – Burtt, Hemphill, Ennis and Estey were sixth in 2:24.15; 400-yard freestyle relay – Cyr, Goulet, Amero and Drabek were ninth in 4:43.87.
The top effort by the PI girls came in the 250-yard shuttle relay as Laura Watson, Heather Nadeau, Olivia Goulet and Sara Gilson placed fourth with a time of 3:09.80.
Other girls’ results: 200-yard medley relay – Abbie Estey, Jacqueline Lambert, Erikka Murley and Emma Michalowski were sixth in 2:22.46; 200-yard butterfly – Gilson, Lambert, Estey and Murley were fifth in 2:33.5; 200-yard freestyle relay – Naomi McEachern, Goulet, Nadeau and Gilson were fifth in 2:19.75; 200-yard breaststroke – McEachern, Lambert, Goulet and Michalowski were sixth in 2:57.37; 200-yard backstroke – Watson, Gilson, Nadeau and Murley were eighth in 2:47.95; 400-yard freestyle relay – Watson, Goulet, McEachern and Michalowski were 10th in 5:45.05.
