Team solid at MA event

Ten of the 11 Caribou wrestlers placed in the top four at Saturday’s Mattanawcook Academy Tournament in Lincoln.

Taking gold were freshman William (Tsion) MacLeod in the 106-lb. division, freshman Axios Gerakaris in 126, senior Aaron Simon in 182 and junior Matt Manter in 195.

Claiming silver were freshman Kevin Bither in 170 and classmate Dustin DeMerchant in 182.

Michael Selander, a senior competing in the 152 division, took third place, as did freshman Trevonte Caudill in 120 and freshman Colton Conley in 220.

Rebecca King, in the 120 division, was defeated in her opening round match but fought through the consolations to garner fourth place.

“Overall, we are improving, but we have much work ahead of us and we must mature as wrestlers as early as we can,” said Caribou coach James  “Chico” Hernandez.

The Vikes host Fort Kent tonight and then host a tournament Saurday featuring eight other schools at 1 p.m.
