Wildcat swim team solid in home meet

    PRESQUE ISLE — A pair of school records were established and several Wildcat swimmers qualified for the Class B state meet following Friday’s home meet against Brewer.

    The Presque Isle girls captured first place by a score of 48-46. The PI boys fell to the Witches, 54-40.

    The boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay team broke a school record with the team of Alex Hemphill, Joshua Jones, Keegan Ennis and Issac Estey. Their time was 1:46.02, good for second place in the meet.

    Estey, Hemphill, Nate Dewitt and Ennis had a time of 1:56.53 to set a new PIHS mark in the 200-yard medley relay. The team placed second in the competition.

    Several PI swimmers had qualifying times for the state meet — Dewitt in 100 and 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly, Estey in 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, Hemphill in the 50 and 100 freestyle and Erikka Murley in 100 fly and the 200 IM.

    Alexis Coiley of Fort Fairfield also qualified for the state meet in 200 and 500 freestyle.

    In the girls’ 200-yard medley Abbie Estey, Jackie Lambert, Murley and Emma Michalowski placed first (2:21.73). Murley won the 200 IM in 2:43.19 and the 100 butterfly in 1:14.30. Abbie Estey took first in the 50 free in 32.53 seconds and Lambert prevailed in the 100  breaststroke in 1:26.48. The 200 freestyle relay team of Michalowski, Lambert, Estey and Murley placed first in 2:12.53.

    In the boys’ 100 butterfly, Dewitt won in 1:03.8, while Hemphill captured the victory in the 100 freestyle in 58.3 seconds. Dewitt was also first in the 500 freestyle with a 6:13.19 clocking.
