On Aug. 31, Sherry and Kent Willigar were guests of honor at a celebration of 25 years of marriage. This affair was held at the snowmobile clubhouse on Route 2 and was catered by both the Dunphy and Willigar families and all contributed to the potluck refreshments. Sherry is the daughter of Leon (Bud) and Margaret Dunphy and Kent,s parents are Gloria and Bob Willigar.

Also attending the affair were their children, David and Mandi Noyes, with Dawson and Bridger and Erica and Ryan Willigar, with Cara and Eli. Many friends also attended and the couple received many cards and gifts as they both are snowmobilers and have made many friends through out the years of this popular sport. They have a home on the shores of Mattawamkeag Lake and therefore have easy access for both summer boat rides and winter snowmobiling.
Joyce and Diane Curry have once again returned to their hometown of Island Falls to spend a week — not at the Curry homestead this time, but at Vacationland Estates. And from there they visited with family members in the area and Jo Stephanie Curry and “Tat” Springer in Houlton and many friends here in Island Falls. They were especially delighted to enjoy all the fresh garden vegetables available at this time of the year.  They have since returned to their home in Portland.
I am still putting out old bread pieces for my little fat woodchuck and I’m sure, now that cooler weather has arrived, that he is happy with that. Have found so many skunk holes in my large lawn that have given up trying to fill them all. I understand that years ago the first owners of our property used to shoot the skunks when they were seen digging but I have never seen any of them out there digging.  Guess they got smart and only dig at night.
I have been putting out sunflower seeds since it got cooler and now I have many gold finch and chickadees flitting in and around my feeders and yesterday had two big blue jays that were busy chomping away in the feeders. Still no deer around, but every now and then I see one on my trips to the pool at Vacationland Estates. I think they will show up out back eventually so I keep looking.
