Bleu and Wolf are birth brothers and two of the most beautiful rottweilers you will ever meet. They get along well with other dogs and cats and are just two of the sweetest animals. They came to The Ark this past June as an owner surrender. They are approximately two years old and both of these boys have problems with their hind legs as well as having hip dysplasia. They were born this way. The breeder that they came from was questionable and the circumstances under which they were purchased was not entirely clear to us.
Bleu and Wolf were born with this handicap so they do not know that they are different. To them their lives and their handicap is normal because they don’t know anything else. They play and go up and down steps and try to run but their legs do not always make it easy for them. One had surgery to try and correct the problem, but it was not successful. They are on a high quality dog food designed to help somewhat with their hind legs. They are currently on no meds, but that is not to say that further down the road they won’t require certain medications.
Because of their medical issues, Bleu and Wolf are finding it very difficult to find their “furever” home. The dogs will only be adopted together. We will not separate them, as they are a bonded pair. They deserve a loving caring home. A family that can afford the care that they need. With today’s economy, we know that this is a tall order. While we believe the best scenario would be for the dogs to be adopted locally, we have come to the conclusion that might not happen.
A couple of months ago, their story was published in an article on the “Life with Dogs” website. It caught the eye of a sanctuary in Arizona, who has agreed to take them for the remainder of their lives. The dogs will never have to worry about anything. They will even be fitted for special carts to help them get around if and when the time comes. They will have everything they could possibly need. There are acres and acres of land for them to explore, their vets are phenomenal and the care they will receive will be second to none.
We have done some research on the sanctuary and they are an unbelievable organization and much like us they are run with volunteers. Our only stumbling block at this point is how to get the animals to Arizona. We do not want to fly them on a commercial airline. At this point in time we are going to try and raise the money to have them driven to Arizona. We know this is going to be expensive, but also know that we cannot put a price tag on their chance at an awesome life. If you would like to help us get the boys to Arizona we have set up a special fund for their transport and any donations would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made on our pay pal account – just note that it is for these dogs. Donations can also be made here at The Hollywood Pet Salon. Again just specify that the donations is for these dogs.
For the month of December, our expenses were $1,432. We took in $3,930 in fundraising and donations. We took in no new dogs and adopted none. We currently have three dogs. We took in no cats and adopted seven.
Please join us at The Horn on Jan. 22, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. for dinner. Part of the proceeds will go to the animals at The Ark. Our first bake sale of the New Year will be Saturday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Hollywood Pet Salon.
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
