This has been an interesting winter hasn’t it? We had the downtown ski festival, the biathlon, no snow, oodles of snow, frigid cold, mild, frigid cold. I know the conditions must be great for snowmobiling as I heard the engines roaring all weekend. That’s good for business and good for the area. With another cold snap here for a couple of weeks, the great conditions for riding and for other winter sports should go on well into March.
The Chamber is pleased to welcome another new member. This one is our first beauty salon! Studio 137 is located on 137 Bennett Drive in Caribou. They have a beautiful place remodeled recently by C.S. Management, the owners of the building. They offer a full range of services including color, straightening, perms, cuts, tanning, nails and pedicures. Studio 137 is having an open house on Feb. 28 and March 1, so check them out!
Speaking of Feb. 28 and March 1, that is going to be a very cool weekend around here. Not only will there be lots of biathlon participants staying in town, but the Chamber is sponsoring a city-wide event called, “Grand Mènage!” To our local Acadians, Grand Mènage means spring cleaning and many of our fine retailers will be holding clearances sales. So you can clean up on some good deals all over the area.
Participants include: Brambleberry Market, Monica’s Scandinavian Gift Shop, Noyes Flower and Plant Shoppe, Sullivan’s Floor Coverings, The S.W. Collins Company, Clukey’s Auto Supply, Sleeper’s, Plourde Furniture, Options Rent to Own and Expect More Dollar Store.
That is an impressive list! And by the time the Aroostook Republican comes to your door, there will be maps to the participating retailers and grocery and convenience stores all over town.
The idea came about to piggyback on Plourde Furniture’s annual winter basement sale. That sale has become quite famous and successful and I am grateful that the Plourde family allowed us to hop on to their successful venture.
After the Grand Mènage, the next thing on our schedule is the annual Recognition Dinner. We sure missed having one this past year and we cannot wait to celebrate our area in this way. Stay tuned for more details in coming weeks. It’s coming soon!
The Maine Winter Sports Center needs our help. This fine organization has for years infused energy and resources into our communities and many of our wonderful Nordic skiing venues and other winter programs have benefited from them. Our Olympian, Russell Currier, is an example of the great works this organization has done.
Now, MWSC has lost a major source of its funding and needs our help. Go to their website at www.mainewsc.org or call them at 492-1444 to see how you can help.
The Caribou Public Library will be sponsoring a book signing for local author Vaughan Hardacker on Saturday, March 15 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Hardacker has written a fast-paced thriller entitled, “Sniper,” that follows Boston police detectives as they hunt down a deranged sniper.
“Sniper” is Hardacker’s first full-length novel to be published, although his short fiction has been published by a number of periodicals such as ECHOES. as well as in several anthologies. His short story, “Bagging the Trophy” appeared in “Deadfall: Crime Stories of New England”. Hardacker’s book is selling for $14.95. Persons desiring further information are asked to contact the library at 493-4214.
Do you like the work the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce is doing? Then show your support by becoming a personal member. The cost is $50 and you will be included to our mailing list and have full access to our member benefits. If you are a senior, the cost is only $25.
