CARIBOU, Maine — An award ceremony was held at Teague Park Elementary School on Feb. 13th for students who recently competed in a very patriotic essay contest.
Fifth grade students, all 86 of them, participated in the contest sponsored by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Post 9389 of Caribou.
The top 11 essays received certificates during the ceremony last week.
Winning first place was Edie Shea, and she was rewarded $25; Daniel Uchendu came in second place and received a $15 prize. Third place was Carter Belanger, who received $10.
Receiving honorable mention certificates were Cody Martin, Liam Martin, Zack Madore, Abby St. Peter, Trinity Pellicer, Malachi Willey, Diego Mendle-Flurry, and Cory Herbert.
Each student that participated also received a pencil with the pledge of allegiance on it, a ruler with the pledge of allegiance on it and a picture of all the presidents to date, a booklet on flag etiquette and a flag.
