I recently heard from my sister who lives in Concord, N.H., and guess the whole area, from New Hampshire to Boston, was without power due to Hurricane Arthur. Her son, Tom, reported that four inches of rain hit the Bangor area. We were lucky up north here to get only strong winds and lots of rain.

Kay Butler has returned home to North Carolina after spending some time with her cousin, Susan Prescott, and other family members. On Saturday, July 12, committal services for Patricia Emerson Given will be held at 11.30 a.m. at the Island Falls cemetery.
Dean and Jane Fitzgerald have arrived at their cottage on Pleasant Pond to spend the summer months enjoying the swimming, fishing and boating and meeting up with friends after a long winter of just staying inside most of the time.
I looked out my kitchen window the other day and there were one or two hummingbirds at my feeder. I haven’t seen many this year and was happy to see them, so I made some fresh sugar and water mixture for them and they have eaten quite a bit of it already. I also saw the male gold finch and a couple of purple finches at my feeders so went out to throw in more sunflower seeds for them. The only problem is when I put out more sunflower seeds the dratted gray squirrels soon arrive and they scare the little birds away. They must have a great sense of smell or else they keep their eyes on the feeders and see me when I go out with more seeds.
I saw a bedraggled looking fox the other day come out of the woods right after the rain and make his way towards my house where he then circled around to the front yard and from there to the barn. I think he was looking for some food. I also saw the deer way down back several times one week. She only stays way down back then disappears into the woods going towards Sam’s house. It’s probably looking for a garden to snack on carrot tops.
