CARIBOU — Officials with the Halfway Home Pet Rescue recently announced that the shelter has received a $7,000 grant to assist with the shelter’s efforts to spay and neuter area felines.
President of the local pet rescue Norma Milton explained that the funding was donated through the Maine Community Foundation through the Belvedere Animal Welfare Fund.
“The Foundation has been generously supportive of HHPR in the past years,” Milton said, “However, this year with the extended kitten season which doesn’t seem to end, we are seeing a much greater need to sterilize the feral cat colonies as well as stray cats.”
Milton said that a portion of the grant funding to be used to continue sterilizing cats living in trailer park areas and/or low-income housing developments. Eligible persons seeking assistance with their spay/neuter expenses can call the pet rescue at 999-1075.
