EASTON NEWS

by Hillary Hallett

Easton High School’s National Honors Society chapter recently joined forces with Heidi’s Hope. They were selected as a pilot school for the program created in honor of Heidi Graham.

The program is a branch of the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative, which encourages county kids to receive college degrees and find jobs in Aroostook County. Heidi’s Hope focuses on service projects that will benefit Aroostook County, while raising money for the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative to give scholarships to graduating seniors furthering their education in this area.
On Oct. 18, Easton hosted a Serve-a-Thon for the town. The projects included helping with the restoration of the old school house on the Station Road, creating “pick-me-up” thank-you cards, and cleaning as well as mapping the gravestones at the Estes Park Cemetery on Center Road.
Easton’s NHS chapter was very excited to offer this program and would like to get younger students involved as well! Elementary students participated by writing “pick-me-up” thank-you cards; it was thought that these  would be more meaningful coming from the younger students at the elementary school. Their cards had encouraging messages, little notes, colorful pictures, and anything their little minds came up with!
