The Washburn Fire Department received a challenge on Dec. 17 to get 1,000 likes on their Facebook page by Christmas.

An anonymous donor pledged to donate $100 to the fire department if they were able to meet that goal. The request went out the same day on their Facebook page, which at that time had 933 likes.  In less than eight hours, the department had reached its goal and will be receiving the monetary donation.

Santa Claus visits Washburn

Santa Claus came to visit Washburn on Saturday, Dec. 13, courtesy of the Washburn Fire Department.  The fire trucks paraded Santa through town before stopping at the park on Main Street. The Washburn Boy Scouts served hot cocoa, donated by Tim Hortons, there was a bonfire and somebody made some very nice snowmen to add to the décor of the evening. Santa was seated in the gazebo and all the children lined up to sit on his knee while parents and friends took pictures.
Each child received a small gift, courtesy of the Washburn Fire Department, along with their very own fireman’s hat.
A large crowd turned out as it does every year for this event and the weather even cooperated with mild temperatures. A big thank you goes out to the fire department for a lovely and fun evening.
