Ranger investigating illegal dumping case in Mapleton

MAPLETON, Maine Forest Ranger Steve Wipperman, of the Maine Forest Service, is currently investigating a case of illegal dumping which was brought to his attention last week.
“On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, around 9 a.m., I received a dumping complaint from Mapleton Town Manager Jon Frederick. Mr. Frederick stated that someone had illegally dumped a large amount of garbage on a Mapleton resident’s private property,” said Wipperman.
Upon arrival, Wipperman found hundreds of pounds of debris.
“This illegal dump was very large and well in excess of 500 pounds. It appeared that more than one load may have been hauled. This illegal dump occurred on private property, not far from the downtown Mapleton area,” he said.
Items discarded were mostly household in nature.
“Items in this dump included mattresses and box springs, large amounts of clothing, blankets, furniture, books, household garbage and many other items,” said Wipperman.
Wipperman said charges will be brought, if the responsible party is located.
“The individual or individuals responsible will face a large fine and clean-up costs, if convicted. There is also the potential for their driver’s license to be suspended,” said Wipperman.
Anyone who has any information regarding this illegal dumping violation is encouraged to call Wipperman at 435-7963, ext. 1.
