Morgan Outing of Caribou, a senior at Caribou High School, and Kareena Woodworth of Limestone, a senior at Limestone Community School, have been selected to receive the 2015 Principal’s Award at their respective schools
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
“It is truly an honor to recognize Morgan,” CHS Principal Mark Jones commented. “She is an outstanding student and school citizen. She held the office of class vice president as a freshman and sophomore and was elected president of her class as a junior and senior.
“Morgan has been active on multiple sports teams and is an exceptional athlete,” the principal continued. “She participated in JV and varsity soccer, basketball, and softball. She was named MVP of her softball team twice and was starting goalie of her soccer team during her junior and senior year. Morgan has also volunteered her time teaching youngsters soccer at the ‘Mini Vike Clinic’ and working the Special Olympics Day.”
Outing’s academic accomplishments are equally noteworthy. She achieved highest honors every quarter of every year and is ranked first in her class. In her junior year, she won three academic achievement awards for being the outstanding student in French, English, and science, and was nominated and inducted into the National Honor Society during her first year of eligibility. “She is an exceptional young lady,” said Jones.
“The award represents the achievement that Kareena has earned while a student at Limestone Community School. She has distinguished herself in the classroom and as a leader in the school and community. She exhibits a positive outlook and attitude in the classroom,” said LCS Principal Travis Barnes.
Woodworth, Outing and other award winners and their principals attended an honors luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on April 11.
The luncheon recognized these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, both of whom were former Maine principals and executive directors of the association. This year an additional five $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
