It was another great week of golfing weather. Looks like we’re on a roll. We could use a touch of rain to enrich the course. The grounds crew is doing an excellent job on the maintenance of the golf course and the greens were trimmed a bit tighter this week. You should come out and play a quick nine holes this week.
The Men’s league has only four weeks to go before the playoffs and many teams are on the bubble, hoping to be one of the top sixteen teams to get in. Less than three points separate these teams. The Ladies Association continues this week with nine holes of golf and dinner to follow. This is open to all lady members and is a great way to meet new friends.
Sunday we held a four ball net tournament. Players signed up in the morning and played their 18 holes with their friends and turned in their card to be tallied. Response was good and players expressed having a fun day. If you played in this and would like to do it again please let the proshop know. We would like to do it every couple weeks.
Coming up in August; the County Open will be the weekend of Aug. 12-13. Eighteen hole stroke play tournament at Houlton on Saturday and a four man scramble at VaJoWa golf course in Island Falls on Sunday. Both tournaments are open to anyone who wants to play. Saturday night will feature a Gala, with dinner and dancing at the Houlton clubhouse. All proceeds will go to the Houlton Regional Hospital Foundation. Call the clubhouse for more info and to sign up.
The HCGC Club Championship and Presidents Cup will be held the weekend of Aug. 18. Both will be contested simultaneously. Signup in the proshop next time you’re at the clubhouse. The Labor Day weekend will see the Babe Caron Memorial tournament played. It is a member-guest stroke play tournament with handicap. We will only be able to accommodate 32 teams this year so pick your partner and sign up soon.
When you come out to play, why not plan on sticking around after for dinner at the Lakeside Restaurant. Featuring delicious meals in a casual atmosphere with beautiful views. Call Nancy at 694-9494 for reservations. See you at the course this week.
