CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Technology Center recently announced that two staff members completed additional advanced degrees this spring.

Tracy Corbin earned her second master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling, and Reed Nonken completed his third master’s degree in criminal justice administration.

Tech Center Director Ralph Conroy stated, “We are proud of the staff here at the Caribou Technology Center, and their continuous desire to do more to support the students we serve. These two staff members earning additional advanced degrees is just another example of how the staff here goes above and beyond in their desire to be the best in their respective fields.”

My first master’s in school counseling prepared me for state certification as a guidance counselor,” Corbin said. “Although much of the work I do with the 200 students at the Tech Center involves career and post-secondary counseling, a lot of my work also involves personal and social counseling.

“My second masters allows me to obtain state licensure as an LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor) to better serve our students,” she said. “The advanced clinical counseling skills have been very beneficial in supporting students through some of the more complex mental health issues we deal with today in schools.”

Nonken said, “This third degree rounded out my previous master’s (ethics and MBA) enabling me to provide some of the most advanced instruction to our future leaders. Many of the instructors here at the Tech Center maintain professional certifications in addition to their formal academic degrees, and advanced degrees are another means by which we provide industry-leading instruction.

“As an example,” he added, “in addition to my academic degrees, I also maintain my certifications as a Maine law enforcement officer and Maine criminal justice instructor.”

Conroy said he is lucky to have such a dedicated staff.

“They come in early, stay late and do so many things above and beyond the call of duty for our students. Here at the Caribou Technology Center, everything we do supports our primary mission of student-centered experiential learning for the students in our sending areas.”
