Search for Houlton principal takes on new urgency with resignation of assistant

HOULTON, Maine — With the start of the new school year a little more than a month away, RSU 29 officials are still searching for a new high school principal, and now also must find a new assistant principal.

Officials of the district, which serves Houlton, Hammond, Littleton and Monticello, have been looking for a new principal at Houlton Middle-High School since April when Marty Bouchard announced he was leaving at the end of the 2017-18 school year. Bouchard, who has been with the district for 14 years, was named principal of The Middle School of the Kennebunks (RSU 21) in Kennebunk.

That search became a bit more urgent this past week when Dan Hodgins, assistant principal at Houlton Middle-High School, resigned from his position to take a similar post in Ashland. Hodgins recently purchased a home in Portage. He was named the assistant principal for Ashland High School this past month, according to RSU 29 Superintendent Ellen Halliday.

“We are still working on the position of high school principal,” Halliday said Thursday. “We plan to have all positions filled by the start of the school year.”
