Power restored to Presque Isle’s North Street Healthcare

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — After a power outage shut down The Aroostook Medical Center’s North Street Healthcare facility Wednesday morning, administrators reopened shortly after 11 a.m.

North Street Healthcare is home to a walk-in care center, a testing lab, family and internal medicine and pediatric clinics, as well as the County Dialysis Center.

The power outage closed all but the dialysis center, which remained open with generator power, according to TAMC Communications Director Karen Gonya.

Gonya said that shortly after 11 a.m. Emera Maine restored partial power to the other clinics.

Staffers reopened the walk-in clinic and lab right away, and began seeing scheduled patients at noon at the family practice, internal medicine and Aroostook Pediatrics clinics, she said.

During the outage, staffers redirected patients from the walk-in clinic and lab to TAMC’s main hospital, cancelled some family medical visits, and directed pediatric visitors to a Caribou facility.

Gonya said that the outage stemmed from the failure of a power feed that supplies electricity to the building, and that Emera planned to replace the feed on Thursday.

The plaza that houses the health care complex is host to other businesses, including a pizza shop, although Gonya said that the outage affected only the end of the building with the health clinics.
