Elizabeth Nelson Ervin, 43, passed away on September 11, 2018, at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle, Maine. Elizabeth was born March 4, 1975, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Daniel and Sherry (Jones) Nelson.
Elizabeth grew up in Houlton, graduated from Houlton High School in 1993. She then continued her education by earning her Bachelor of Science degree in business management at Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire in 1998, her master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University Of Bridgeport in 2000, as well as her doctorate degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern in 2013.
Elizabeth started her career in education; teaching for eight years in Gardner, Massachusetts, seven years as Principal and Assistant Superintendent in Athol, Massachusetts, and finally as Superintendent for the Washburn, Wade, and Perham school district. Elizabeth married her college sweetheart Kenneth Ervin on June 23, 2001, and together they would have five children.
She loved her family and treasured the time spent with them. She will be forever remembered by her husband, Kenneth Ervin of Houlton and their five children, Zachariah Daniel Ervin, Isaiah Kenneth Ervin, Victoria Elizabeth Ervin, Olivia Clancy Ervin, and Alexandria Jones Ervin, all of Houlton; her parents, Daniel and Sherry Nelson; a brother, Stephen Nelson and his wife, Janel, all of Houlton; a sister, Pamela Paquette and her husband, Ed, of Alabama. She also leaves behind her grandmother, Janette Nelson of Houlton, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, colleagues and special friends.
At the family’s request, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 noon on Saturday, September 15, at St. Mary’ Catholic Church in Houlton, with the Rev. Kent Ouellette celebrant. The family invites relatives and friends to a time of reception and visitation following the service at St. Anthony’s Hall, located on the lower level of the church. A private interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. It is Elizabeth’s wish that those in attendance please dress in black clothing.
