Caribou rec teams sweep tourneys in East Millinocket

The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s girls and boys basketball teams won championships in the Katahdin Area Basketball Tournament Feb. 9 and 10 in East Millinocket.

In the finals, the Caribou girls defeated Oakfield, 46-10, while the boys stopped Lee, 55-38.

Caribou didn’t allow a single point in the first quarter, while scoring 16, and the squad cruised to the girls’ victory. Madelyn Deprey scored 16 points in the game, while Lexi Disy tossed in 14. Amelia Godin and Haley Mayne added seven and six, respectively.

Caribou bested East Millinocket in the first round and then stopped Oakfield.

On the boys’ side, a 22-6 run in the third quarter broke a tie game and lifted Caribou to the triumph. Dawson St. Pierre netted 16 points, all coming in the second half, to power the winning offense. Landen Belanger added 14, Owen Corrigan eight and Tristan Robbins seven. Luke Beidelman was credited for being effective in a quiet way with some great passing and defense.

In early round games, Caribou topped Lincoln and Lee.
