From the Bunkers – Week of June 3, 2019

Well it’s about time. We are finally getting a break in the weather patterns. Although it is not consistently 70 degrees, we’ll take the 60s. Our grounds crew is getting caught up with the mowing as the fairways and roughs are drying out enough to put the machinery on them.

This past weekend, under sunny skies, we held the Memorial Tournament to help raise funds for flowers for our course. Winners were Merrill Levien, Reggie Grant, and Jerry and Jane York. Second place went to Rick and Ben Goodwin, Dick York, and Sean Dolomont. Third place was won by team Tuttle (David, Kevin, and Kody) with the help of Dalton Cloney. Closest to the pin was won by Chuck Moody. Overall we had seven groups. Thank you for participating everyone.

There is still plenty of time to enjoy playing golf this season. The weather is warming and the course is looking beautiful. The Ladies Association began play last week with a scramble. This week they will play at 3, 4, and 5 p.m. Call the pro shop to sign up or for more info. The Men’s League will begin play on Monday, June 10. Call the clubhouse or check the website to find out what your tee time is. We have 20, two-man teams.

School will be out for the summer break soon and now would be a good time to get your children involved in the sport you love. Call the clubhouse to enroll your young ones, boys and girls, in the Junior Golf Program. Clinics begin June 24 and cost $45 for the summer.

On Saturday, July 5, at 9 a.m. is the annual Houlton High School Alumni 9 Hole Scramble. Call the pro shop to sign your team up, or sign up as a single.

The Lakeside Restaurant is still putting great meals on the table every Wednesday through Sunday. You can call Nancy at 694-9494 for reservations.

The fairways are green and inviting. The greens are firm and it’s just an excellent time to take your clubs out of the closet and soak up the fresh air after the long winter. And when you do, I will surely see on the course.

Houlton Community Golf Course is located on 6 Country Club Drive in New Limerick. For more information on the course call 532-2662, email houltongolf@gmail.com or visit their website www.houltongolf.com.
